LCD display principles and technology
LCD screens represent a very popular form of image display, alongside LED walls and projection systems. LCD monitor or LCD panel is a monitor whose display element is a liquid crystal display. The display portion of the LCD monitor is composed of liquid crystals and their control electrodes on a support, polarizing filters and a light source. The liquid crystals allow dynamic control of the brightness of the individual monitor pixels, which makes it possible to display even fast-moving colour images.
Liquid Crystal Display (LCD)
An LCD is a thin and flat display device, with images made up of color or monochrome pixels arranged in front of a light source. In operation, it requires relatively little energy and can be powered by batteries. The light source for the LCD display can be a passive reflective layer positioned behind the display, which reflects light hitting the screen, or an active white diffusing surface illuminated from behind by a discharge lamp or a series of white LEDs.
LCD technology has facilitated the rapid development of widescreen LCD monitors, which have an aspect ratio different from the standard 4:3. You may also encounter aspect ratios that allow the LCD screen to be rotated.
