Hardware

HW characteristics and terminology

Hardware, abbreviated as HW, refers to the technical equipment of a computer. In Slovak, it is also referred to as hardvér. Today, hardware encompasses all parts of devices on which software runs. In English-speaking countries, this term is also used to refer to stores that sell technical goods, equivalent to our hardware or building supply stores.

HW as Tangible Technology

In computer jargon, hardware is the physical part of the device. Hardware can include components such as the motherboard, graphics card, or theoretically even an LED screen or speakers for sound systems. Software, meaning programs, is installed on the hardware. For example, a control unit in a car can also be considered hardware since it contains installed software.
